3 Evernote features I love

Sticky notes became the biggest productivity tool in the 1980's, then the PalmPilot in the late 90's. Replaced by BlackBerry® in 1999. Eventually the iPhone caused a flood of apps that could help you with your to-do list and note-taking.

TAKE NOTE - note-taking apps Evernote, OneNote, Google Keep

The three note-taking apps I share with my clients are Evernote, OneNote, and Google Keep. I started with OneNote but quickly turned to Evernote. I'll be showing features from all three apps in future posts, but today I want to introduce you to Evernote.

Evernote has three features I love:

1. Search for keywords in photos.

Have you ever taken a picture of your meeting notes on a whiteboard or flip chart and then spent hours looking for the picture again. With Evernote you can just type in a few words that were written on the board and Evernote searches through photos, PDFs (Evernote Premium only), and text.

Example: searching for "Tidy Tuesdays" or "tidy tuesdays" found the term in a screenshot I had taken of a blog post.

All levels of Evernote will search images for your search terms

2. Clip online articles and posts for research.

Forget bookmarking, use the web clipper feature of Evernote and easily clip articles, full pages, PDFs and even YouTube links. Download the Evernote Web Clipper app/extension from your browser's app store and click it whenever you come across an article, post, or resource you want to reference again.

PDFs

3. Voice recording of notes & transcription on iOS devices.

I like being able to record a message or note in Evernote. The iPhone has recording capabilities and there are numerous apps that can do that as well. But Evernote is always the first place I look when I'm searching for a note, a photo, or information I think I have.

Take it one step further and transcribe your message instead. This might just be the "next best thing' for writers and speakers.

For those of you with an Android device and Evernote - let me know if it works the same on Android.

How do you use Evernote? Let me know.
